Commerical Opportunity

I spent the past weekend being photoed, filmed, videoed, outfitted, made-up, etc. I will appear in an upcoming commercial based in Taiwan for a mobile phone company. The commercial will be global. It was so much fun. I met people from all over the world to include Russia, Hungary, Canada, Taiwan, USA, Thailand, and Holland. Am I a star in the making? I am so thrilled to have had such an opportunity.

2009 Reggie in Review Part 1

2009 Year in Review

I am blessed to send 2010 New Year Greetings to you and yours from Taiwan. It has been another interesting and fulfilled year. This years was comprised with happy, exciting, and of course, sad moments. I was crushed to loose two close family members in a matter of weeks. And, I still can’t believe that we lost MJ. Bad technology was also a factor this year. My laptop and phone completed crashed on me. Living aboard is fun, but sometimes the distance is tough. However, I am thrilled to have visited three of the best metropolitan cities in the world: London, Hong Kong, and NYC.

January, I brought in the New Year in Taipei with wonderful Central American friends. I travelled back to the USA to witness the inauguration of President Obama in D.C. Didn’t want to miss that historic event!! It was so crowded and cold. It was also good visiting Aunt Angela and family in Virginia. I traveled down south to Alabama to visit my wonderful family and friends while in the States. I received a Resolution from Senator Roger Bedford and the Alabama Senate for my commitment to education.

I returned to D.C. to receive my teaching award at the NEA Salute to Education Gala in February. I was the 2009 Alabama awardee. This event was extra special, as I met and made many new colleagues. I also reconnected with several Stillmanites in the D.C, area. Thanks Chuck and Corey for being such great host. Upon returning to Taiwan, I travelled with our 6th graders to the Nantou Mountains in Central Taiwan for two days of fun and excitement.

March, I met up with Bridget and her family in Taichung and we ventured to Sun Moon Lake. I had already met her daughter and son-in-law the previous month in D.C. We had a great time hiking and hanging out. Afterwards, we had to deal with a crazy cab driver who wanted more money. Try having a disagreement with others who do not speak the same language as you. A major stress!!!

In April, I presented to a group of US educators in Taipei on my international experience and teaching in Taiwan. Otherwise, this was a pretty relaxed month. However, I made many trip to Taipei to hang out with Tony and the crew.

May was sort of busy for me. I traveled to Kaohsiung twice to meet up with Melissa and the girls on the first trip, and on the second trip to hang out with Mike. A few of my colleagues came up to Hsinchu (my home) to visit and hang out. It was so good seeing them, and we reconnected once more in Taipei for what resulted in a farewell dinner. Didn’t realize that it would be the last time before we are went out separate ways! Embrace every moment like it’s your last!! At the later part of the month, I travelled to Hong Kong!!! It was such a wonderful and much needed trip. The Dragon Boat firework show on the Victoria Harbor is a beautiful sight. I also met Mark, another traveler, and now we friends.

2009 Reggie in Review Part 2

June is my birthday month. I had a week full of celebration with my many new friends and colleagues here in Taiwan. They range in all races, sexes, and come from all pockets of the word. We had a blast at my first KTV (karaoke birthday party). Karaoke is a blast in this country. A special thanks to everyone who made it a success, especially my co-teachers. I returned to central Taiwan for biking and wood carving with one of my sixth grade classes. My good friend Jonathan came to my city in Taiwan to work a summer job, as I was leaving within one week. But, he was here upon my return in September.

I started my across the world travels in July. Upon leaving Taiwan, I traveled to Malaysia, England, Ireland, New York, Alabama, Illinois, California, and back to Taiwan. It was an amazing summer. The highlight was being back in Northern Ireland and seeing all of my wonderful families, friends, colleagues, and my former school. It was like returning home after two years. I miss the place so much. Too many people to thank, however, special thanks to Thomas and Carolyn for opening your homes to me once again! Also, thanks to Adam and family for everything!!! You guys are the best!! Cealon, the kid that I’m sponsoring as a part of his Catholic confirmation is growing up so fast. I enjoyed my time with his family as usual. I always have a good time in London. That place is like a home away from home!!! Thanks Kit and G for your hospitality as well. I traveled to Bath, England with Doreen to visit her host city during our Fulbright Days.

In August, I went home to Alabama via a visit to New York City. I connected with my cousin Elton, friends Denise and Elvis, and Fulbright colleague Collette. Hanging out in Times Square and a trip to the Bronx Zoo was priceless. Thanks Guys!!!
While in Alabama, I dealt with the crazy locksmith case in which the judge ruled against me. No justice in the justice system!!! Complete waste of time!!! Lesson learned!!! However, I did get a speeding ticket removed after challenging the court. So I guess there is some hope. It was good seeing my family and friends in the area. I love my wonderful family in Millport. Mom is the best!!! However, I was sad to see my grandma Helen health declining. I gave a presentation to my high school/elementary alma mater South Lamar about life in Taiwan. I will also be submitting occasional news article on my experiences to my hometown local paper: West Alabama Gazette!!!

Chicago and San Francisco in September! Got a chance to connect with long-time college friend Vette in Chicago and meet up with Varun. In San Fran, I connected with Nithin. Thanks for showing me around the city. Now, back in Taiwan!!! A new American, Nathan has moved in my area, and we have become friends. I have enrolled in a Chinese Course at a local university. So hard and demanding!!! My Lord!!!

2009 Reggie in Review Part 3

I traveled to JuFen with Nathan and the crew for the 10/10 holiday weekend. It such a cool place, but we got completely rained out. I chickened out of climbing the over 2,000 feet mountain. I gave a brief speech and served as a host to a group of British educators visiting my school. The month ended with me receiving two sets of bad news: my cousin Carl and Grandma Helen both passed within weeks apart. Sadden and devastated, I travelled home to be with my family during our hour of need. Thanks Grandma for 82 years of your life. May you both rest in peace. Thanks to the Graduate School, International Institute for making my trip possible. Your understanding and support was a blessing. Also, thanks to TECRO for your support.

I attended a Thanksgiving dinner sponsored by the American Institute in Taiwan for Fulbrighters in the area in November.

December, I returned to Kaohsiung to hang out with Melissa and the girls, and I did the same for Christmas in Taipei with the same crew. Not much for Christmas celebrating in this country. But, I did have a several invites to events thanks to Tony, Joe, Lillian, and the Hsinchu foreigners. You guys are so great to me. New Year’s Eve plans got ruined due to my phone crashing. So I had dinner at KFC and when home. In this age of time, I don’t remember number so I could call anyone or be reached.

I wish you many blessings in the 2010 Year. May God continue to be a blessing!!! Please feel free to write, call, visit, as your schedule permits. No. 98 Jhohgyang Road
Chubei City, Hsinchu County, 30252, Taiwan, ROC!!

Cheers,
